A word alone means zilch, but when put together they denote an entirely new meaning. Whenever the going gets tough for me, I prefer to curl up in my lounger and read a book. Sometimes it’s good to throw yourself into another world, a world that is of another time but here in the same country I live in, or in an entirely different country all together.
Literature is a beautiful combination of knowledge and art, the art of writing. It is a journey in time that helps you learn about a time, a place, a people. The best part of literature is that it is fiction. It gives author all the freedom to let his mind wander places and come up with an awe-inspiring story line, story that takes us back in history. All literary writings create such profound impact, which stimulates reader’s visual theatre of mind.
Literature and history go hand in hand. Many authors have intertwined history and literature in their compositions. I wonder at the amount of research that must go into the writing of the books in our time. A couple hundred years ago it was common for the people to write about their times in their books. But today it is a bit taxing. A look to see how life was back then, to see what changes have occurred from then to now.
I’m a bibliophile. I have a collection of my favorite books. A collection that is not too difficult to read, but is replete of historical wisdom. I love to read and see how things used to be. In each book, I am reminded that I have much to be thankful for as well. Literature reminds us of the beauty of our world. Enjoy the world of words, for in them are the truths that have survived through the ages, the truths that have brought us to today even amidst all obstacles.
One question that always pops up in my mind when I read literature is will we as humans learn from history or are we going to continue the cycle. Going by the recent trends I’m quite doubtful of it. Doubtful that we are going to ever completely learn from literature, except to perhaps better the way we do things and protect ourselves. It’s at times like those I love to retreat to my books and just immerse myself in a world of words, words that are telling a story.
